At 13:44, Companies 33 and 31 were sent to 6746 Carlisle Pike @ Eagle View Middle School. C333 (Lt Horning) responded and was originally advised that the school police were on scene reporting the alarm caused by construction. C333 responded to the scene and canceled the rigs. While on scene, a report of a smoke condition was relayed and the response upgraded for smoke in the building. E33 (with 5) positioned on Side B to advance lines if needed and sent the crew inside to begin investigation. Squad 33 (with 2) laid out 800' of 5" from a hydrant to the Engine. Truck 31 set up near E33 for roof access. E29 provided a second crew for investigation and E225 picked up the hydrant layout. Additional arriving apparatus was told to stage. The school was evacuated as well. After checking most all areas and no conditions other than an "odor" being found, the box was reduced. Due to this incident happening near the end of the school day, a delay of students leaving by bus or parent pickup occurred. In a coordinated effort with school officials, students were allowed back into the building to be released. The township companies remained on scene, then conducted a more thorough investigation of the entire building with no additional conditions being found and cleared just before 16:00. This type of incident requires the largest response of any "33 box areas" due to the high occupancy of the building. We thank our automatic aid companies for their assistance with this incident including helping to roll hose before clearing the scene. We also thank the CV School District staff for their assistance and working relationship. The school handled two (2) parent notifications through their internal procedure.
