Carbon Monoxide Response

By Chief Curtis Hall
December 27, 2024

Thursday morning, the township companies responded to a Carbon Monoxide Incident at a residence in Silver Spring Township. The incident began as a medical emergency, and upon entering the residence, the CO alarm on the medic's first due bag alerted to high CO Levels. While we do not discuss patient information, the residence contained near-lethal levels of Carbon Monoxide. The incident was traced to a malfunctioning coal stove in the basement. The incident brings to light the need for ALL residences to be equipped with working smoke alarms and separate Carbon Monoxide alarms. We cannot stress this enough!! All local home stores (such as Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart) have alarms for sale. We do recommend purchasing separate alarms, not the combination smoke/CO alarms. Most store employees think the higher cost alarms are better, which normally are the combination alarms, however, this is far from being accurate.
