Wednesday evening, Company 33 responded to a reported dryer fire in Middlesex Township. Crews found a smoke condition in the residence and secured power and gas to the appliance. The appliance was moved to the exterior of the home where is was dismantled to make sure the fire was out. There was damage to the home other than the smoke odor. The dryer vent tube was found mostly blocked at the elbow behind the dryer and where the vent exits to fresh air which led to an internal fire in the dryer. The home was equipped with a residential fire alarm and occupants also called 9-1-1. This incident could have been much worse, but in this case was placed under control shortly after arrival. This reiterates annual maintenance on your dryer vent, including removing the dryer and a thorough cleaning of vent tubing. Engine, Squad and Tanker 33 responded with 12 members. Company 33 was assisted by Truck 31, E139, and E34. The incident was reduced to 33 and 31 10 mins after arrival.
