21 members participated in weekly training Tuesday evening which covered Rapid Intervention Team Drills. The first scenario, a "run-in" drill responding from the Station, where crews were tasked with locating and removing a firefighter in which the primary exit became blocked. The second drill, involved removing a disoriented FF from the second floor via ladders. The third drill, the most labor intensive of the night involved locating a trapped FF who had fallen into the basement. Crews operated in zero visibility (from the smoke machine) to prepare the FF to be removed via interior stairs. During this operation, a second PASS alarm sounded in another location within the home which took the second RIT team to search. After operations were completed, members hot washed the exercise and returned all equipment. Cleanup back at the Station took nearly an hour. These drills involved every single member present in some manner from juniors and exterior FF throwing ladders, establishing lighting, and ventilation to the drivers establishing a charged back up line, to multiple cylinder changes for crews operating inside. These "real life" training exercises are treated like actual incidents-this builds team work, insures confidence, and prepares our members for any possibility that could present itself. Everyone learned something last night!!
