Water Rescue

By Chief Curtis Hall
April 27, 2026

On Sunday afternoon, Township fire companies and water rescue teams from Monroe and Carlisle Fire Rescue responded to a call near the Conodoguinet Creek by Greenbriar Drive in Silver Spring Township. Because access to the scene was steep, emergency crews were redirected to the Hidden Creek Park area off Millfording Road for a safer approach. Crew members carried out a shore-based rescue, successfully removing all kayaks and their occupants from the water.

Chief 33 provided safety oversight downstream from an access point behind Wegmans and remained in position until everyone was safely out of the water. EMS personnel evaluated all individuals involved to determine if any medical treatment was needed. This type of incident, while not common, requires responders to be prepared for any outcome.

Although water levels were lower than usual, the incident serves as a reminder that water-related emergencies can develop quickly, regardless of depth. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. As recreational water use season begins, resources from credible agencies are available to help residents stay safe.
