Company 33 and Automatic Aid were sent at 12:58 Thursday to the abandoned Diamond Hotel in the 1200 blk of Harrisburg Pike for a building fire. Cumberland County DPS reported Police on scene with a working fire and dispatched the working fire assignment at 13:00. E33 (6) and Chief 33 arrived at 13:04, to find two rooms on fire with direct exterior access to those rooms. Police officers had used extinguishers just ahead of the Engine’s arrival. E33 laid out 600’ of 5” from the hydrant and placed one line into service followed by a back-up line. Crews from 33 and 41 worked on forcible entry, fire control, search, and overhaul. Crews also checked the 2nd floor rooms above the fire rooms for extension finding only smoke and no heat; ventilation followed. Assistance on this incident was received from Union Fire Co, Carlisle Barracks, North Middleton, Carlisle Fire Rescue, Silver Spring, Monroe Fire Co (RIT), and Cumberland-Goodwill EMS. Fire Control was marked at 13:16. The incident was reduced to 33, 41, and Truck 39 not long after. E33 remained on scene until released by Chief 7 at 14:26. The Middlesex Township Police Department is handling the investigation. Officials have been aware of this Hotel for several years and it being vacant/abandoned, that does not take away from the fact that searches still need to occur; however the safety and accountability of our responding crews still remains paramount. Thanks to West Shore Bureau of Fire for transferring to Station 33 and assisting with clean up. Co. 33 completed cleanup and rigs in service around 16:00. A total of 18 members turned out for this mid-day incident.
