Sunday morning at 09:48, Engine 33 (with 4) responded to assist Company 31 with a residential fire alarm on High Ridge Trail in Silver Spring Township. Squad 31 arrived and reported a chimney fire requesting the upgraded response at 09:54. The resident had used a dry chemical extinguisher before crews arrived. Squad 33 and Mini Pumper 33 responded on the upgrade. Crew performed standard operations including checking all floors and confirmed the fire was contained to the chimney. The assignment was reduced to the township companies, Truck 45, and EMS. Due to the location and height of the chimney, the truck's 95' main ladder had to be used to get crews to the top of the chimney. The Truck operator positioned the unit in the best possible location to make the chimney. Crews then used the chimney chains to "sweep" the flu. The homeowner was present and kept updated of our operations. The chimney was left "out of service" until a professional chimney sweep could clean and examine the flu. All units cleared the scene at 11:13. Thanks to Co. 31 for use of the pictures.
